Beat those Monday blues by wearing something blue that’s fabulous 🙂 I’m obsessing over these Balmain pumps!

HIS AND HERS;DENIM ON DENIM

Hey!

So,I feel like I’m stuck in a fashion rut.I’m soo bored of my clothes let me tell you.Who else feels like this? The best fix however would be going shopping. That’s just not an option right now! So I’m finding more ways to wear the stuff I have. Recently I’ve also been all about purging my wardrobe . It finally hit me like a ton of bricks that quality is better than quantity…Part of growing up I guess. No thanks to  my overly sentimental connection with my clothes, giving them away hasn’t been easy.

Onto this week’s post.My boyfriend ,,James and I did a denim on denim look for him and for her.We both wore denim shirts and black jeans.Of course to bring the female aspect,I wore monochrome heels and a black sling bag . 🙂

SOPHISTICATION…IT’S IN THE MIDI SKIRT

Hope your Sunday is going well. This past week has been taken up mostly by school(as it ought to be) but I created time to check out the recent  Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks.I also did my nails in neon colours yesterday. You can follow me on Instagram @winniethefashionista to check out the photos.I rarely do my nails because it’s soo much work,it’s so tedious and time-consuming . Makeup over nail polish any day! It’s also too high maintenance to keep going to the salon for a manicure and pedicure for someone like me who isn’t working. My nails look great in the end but it’s just a lot to deal with .Not to mention I like perfection and when I mess up a nail,I remove the polish and start all over again.I can do this up to 3 times on one nail 😀 yo…The struggle is real.

For today’s post,I’m in a midi skirt,a pink top,a statement necklace and pink heels.I threw on a grey crop jacket because it was cold on this day.You see that sunshine? So did I.But it was a trick! I loved the colour palette of this outfit.Do you? I had on 3 different shades of pink (lipstick, top and heels)The lipstick is Flormar Supermatte number 501. Plus I like the way the grey goes with pink.

The allure of midi skirts is the way they go below the knees giving you that polished, sophisticated look especially when  worn with heels. Not that I have anything against short skirts but I think they’ve their time.Mine is a high-waisted, bodycon midi but midi skirts can also be full-circle and of course they come in a range of fabrics!

Do enjoy the rest of your day dear reader.I appreciate you for stopping buy.

FELINE-INSPIRED

Hey guys.I know I’ve been away for a bit of a long time. It’s because I haven’t had the strength to blog about fashion since the westgate attacks .  Such a tragic happening it was. My heart goes out to the families of those affected.I thank God for his mercies on me!

Today’s look is one I wore to school last week when it was quite sunny.A coloured leopard print top and ‘wet look’ leggings with black doll shoes and a brass neck piece.I had with me a black cross-body bag. To finish off the feline-inspired look I wore cat-eye sunglasses. I now just need to be in Katy Perry’s video ”Roar” right? I’m ready for my close-up! 😀 You must be wondering “I thought she was in law school? What’s all that colour and fashionista-ness for?” haha! 😀 Our school doesn’t have a dress code…yet, although they tried to introduce one.I don’t know what happened.I will have as much fun with clothes as I can before I actually start my career because after school it’s the dog house for me! And by that I mean wearing ONLY blacks, grey, navy blue and brown.

TERROR AT THE MALL

As we speak I can hear helicopters above our house.I live less than 3 Kilometres away from the place in question…The Westgate Mall. Imagine yourself going for frozen yoghurt with a friend or your fiance, going shopping for groceries with your 2 yelling infants or heck just stopping by for what you think will be 10 minutes tops to withdraw money from the ATM,right? …WRONG.Unfortunately that’s not what happened to the innocent civilians who were at Westgate having a good time or going about their business. It was and still is hell.

Yesterday on Saturday September 22nd 2013 at about noon,an estimated 10-15 armed people(a woman/women included) went to the Westgate Mall in Nairobi and started shooting randomly and throwing grenades according to eyewitness reports. Once you hear gunshots, you hide and that’s what survivors did. The police who arrived managed to liberate some 1000 people from the mall until evening but no one came out after that. Some 3 hostages have managed to escape this morning but an estimated 30 people are still in the dreaded mall as I type this. Children were not spared as fire was opened callously on them. So far 59 people have lost their lives and the death toll is still rising while 179 + people have sustained an array of wounds. The deceased range from the ages of 2 to 78. The assailants asked people questions to prove they were Muslims. If you’re no Muslim they shot you,if your phone rang…they shot you too. 😥

People running out of the mall to safety:

I almost cried I saw this mom hiding with these babies:

This one made me cry too.A security personnel rescuing an unknowing baby and other civilians:

This brave unsuspecting child kept running but the policeman was beckoning her to keep her from harm:

ANGUISH:

In the line of duty:

I’d rather not post photos of the injured and deceased that I’ve seen so much of. Some people have found out their loved ones have passed on,through the internet.Their photos are all over! What a way to break it to someone…

And who’s claiming responsibility? The Al-Shabaab ,a terrorist organization from Somalia. I’ve frequented that mall in the past and I’m trying to imagine if I was in there, what I would do…Survivors have recounted horrific scenes, some saying the had to sleep under a car on the cold hard floor in the basement parking, clinging onto that glimmer of hope that they will be indeed rescued. One jumped from the 1 st floor to the ground floor just to escape and others played dead in a bid to stave off their attackers. If you’re Kenyan you’ve seen it all on TV.I have been deeply saddened by the current despondent state of affairs. The security agencies that are there are doing their best to deliver the remaining civilians from the hands of their attackers.Kenyans in their generosity  have turned out in mammoth crowds to donate blood and other supplies where needed and I am deeply touched.I’m also planning to donate my blood as soon as the situation is contained since I live near Westgate Mall.

The aftermath of this horrid experience is traumatised children, grief, paranoia…But our president said something very powerful ” Terrorism is a philosophy of cowards” and it’s true.Terrorrism is of no religion…It is of cowards. We have never had a hostage situation in our country but I’m proud of our brave armed forces’ handle on the situation. If you’re out there reading this, keep us in your prayers. We shall overcome. That is all.

CROCODILE HUNTERS…BARELY

Hoping you are all doing well. This week I went for a random trip to Mamba Village in Nairobi to see some crocodiles and ostriches…and ducks and tortoises 🙂 It was loads of fun despite the sweltering heat.Today it’s more about James and the crocs…and ostriches and duckies 😀

So the tour guide actually allowed us to hold a baby croc.James handled it like a pro,Kinda like Steve Irwin of ”Crocodile Hunter”…Can’t say the same for me.I WAS TERRIFIED! I mean, who cares if they’re infants?! We were told if we didn’t hold the neck properly it would cause some serious damage.Plus those little grey eyes… *I shudder* .

2013-09-018

I look calm but I was beyond mortified, haha! 😀 I was even being laughed at by an on-looker because I was so squeamish. The photo is blurry because I was moving so much, plus the sunlight was unforgiving.

James was taking this photo right above the crocs.Take the risk why dontcha? Good thing they were asleep…I was busy being a scared-y cat.

James rocking the casual but stylish look of a denim shirt(every boy needs one),black jeans and red loafers. His accessories: black geek sunglasses and black and red wristbands . Guys , don’t wear jeans and a t-shirt anymore.Make it more interesting and change it up a bit.And by this I mean wearing pants made from other materials like khaki, wearing denim shirts, accessorize with a watch, scarf, bow tie or suspenders, wear loafers instead of sports shoes or leather shoes and so on.The days of jeans and t-shirts are soon up 😀

2013-09-020

For this chilled-out day I wore a grey long-sleved top with floral print, blue jeans and hoop earrings.Just to be fair, nobody warned me about the heat. 😀

Happy Friday everyone!

ROMPER LOVE

Hi guys. This is what has happened this past week:

  1. Got my hair done.
  2. Reached 10,000+ views on my blog(Finally after 8 months of hard work).
  3. Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week(Social media and blogs are abuzz with it). Lucky are those who went…Someday Winnie,Someday :D…Rachel Zoe’s and Jason Wu ‘s collections were my favourite. So wearable by and relatable to the everyday woman. Also loved the colour and print by Oscar De la Renta. The outerwear and structure in the 3.1 Philip Lim collection was awesome.
  4. Lupita Ny’ong’o who acted in ”12 Years A Slave”  stunned on the Red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival In Prada gown ,Antonio Bererdi dress , Veronica Beard Jumpsuit and Moschino coat…So proud! Her stylist must be applauded.
  5. Nairobi Governor slaps Women’s representative on camera… 😀

Today’s post is about a look I did last week on Friday, that consisted of a floral print romper/play suit. So appropriate for our sunny weather.I cinched it at the waist with a chunky fuchsia belt and wore gold toned flats from Mr.Price South Africa, which are so versatile by the way. They go with literally everything in my closet.

DSC01149-006

The awesome thing about the romper is the pockets and the elastic around the waist which allows you to pull the romper to any length you want.My only wish is that I was taking these photos on vacation on some tropical island 😀 .

I  added some zazz to the outfit with a wide-brimmed straw hat because of the crazy heat and it was perfect with the playsuit. I also added pearls and fuchsia sunglasses to make it more fun! My trusty mustard bag helped complete the look.

TRUE BLUE

Heyy guys! *waving frantically* I know I’ve been away for about 2 weeks now. It’s due lack of internet but now I’m baack! 🙂 So yesterday I went to my friend’s birthday party and this is what I wore : Cobalt blue peplum top, letter printed leggings and cobalt blue heels. My accessories: red clutch and black sunglasses. The top and leggings are actually courtesy of my boyfriend James from his recent trip to South Africa. He got them from a Mr.Price in Gauteng, SA. Mr.Price South Africa has a website which has awesome stuff! And they now ship internationally…Plus shipping is not as expensive as the many sites I would want to shop from but can’t due to insane shipping prices. $50 for shipping and what I want is $15? NO WAY IN HELL .Finally! A  great online shopping experience if you live in Africa. It sucks when you visit a site and they’re like ”We do not ship to Africa” or if they do, they only ship to Egypt and South Africa,,,ugh! I complained about this earlier. Anyway, thanks to James’ good judgement of size I’m a very happy girl. You know how guys hate shopping…especially for girls? Well, he does too…But he did a great job, haha! 😀

CROP ON TOP

Hey there…Yes…you reading this 😀 Hope you’re  good. Can’t complain , I mean besides the fact that our house help decided to pull a fast one  on us and I’m on house detail…She went and we haven’t seen her for a week …The intrigues of house helps! Otherwise, I’m cool(Gnashing teeth) But my unceasing  love for fashion is a constant 🙂 Today I’m showing you guys an outfit I wore last week. You’ve seen these jeans on my blog a couple of times. The look consists of the repeat offender jeans, a light blue crop top with floral print, light blue wedges and a mustard bag. Remember when our Kenyan parents used to call crop tops ”tumbo cuts” ? Yeah…That would make me one of those girls your mama would warn you about back in the day, haha!

What’s your take on the just concluded Nairobi Fashion week and Kenya Fashion week? They sparked a lot of debate on  social media.  Including, ”why were they on the same weekend?” and ”We expected more for the money we paid for tickets” .Why Let’s just see what Strut It Africa Fashion Week has in store. Though 20,000/= for a VIP ticket and 5000/= for Silver…That’s more than…Anyway! IT BETTER BE WORTH IT!

Have and awesome week…With this house help situation,I know I’ll try. 😀

CHAIN LINKED

I know I’ve been quiet for a while. I’m good though, just gearing up for school…bummer. But here’s an outfit I wore last week. These are my new baroque/chain link-print leggings. I paired them with a mint off-the-shoulder crop top and basic black vest. I also wore gold pumps. What do you think? 🙂 This is me channeling my inner gangsta! sorta like ‘gangsta chic’ Anyone agree with me? No?  Ok.. 😀
