Hello! ๐Ÿ™‚

On 28th of July I went for the Deacons fashion show which was at Thika Road Mall.It was a battle of the stylists.7 stylists came together to style clothes from Woolworths ,Babyshop and 4U2ย  which now officially carries Zara. The climax was the launch of Zara and Massimo Dutti in Kenya at 4U2.After the fashion show I went to check out the Zara stuff they had in store but alas…disappointment. There was nothing as outstanding as they have on their online shops…Or did we get leftovers?! Any-who…

I met with fellow fashion bloggers. We met each other for the first time and it was awesome.Of course we took lots of photos but today I’ll only post photos of my outfit.I’ll do a part II of this post later because the photos are so many!

Here’s me,hair let down, in a burgundy lace dress, black sheer stockings and gold-coloured pumps.I threw on a denim vest and wore pearls and a chunky bangle and finished the look off with a mustard sling bag.I also thought the chunky black belt was a great addition.I was going for girly and grunge.

Heyyy! Hoping everybody’s great. As I type this I’m listening to J. Cole’s album ‘Born Sinner’ .IT IS EPIC! Now for today’s post…It’s all about lipstick. Yesterday my mum told me ”There’s this nice lipstick I have, come for it.” I happily skipped to her room to collect my new baby…CHRISTIAN DIOR ROUGE #108.I’ve wanted to buy red lipstick for a while now and this couldn’t come at a more perfect time.Check her out:

I’m yet to try it out but I’ll let you know as soon as I do.

When I got this lipstick I realised that I’ve never done a post on beauty products and decided to do one today.A girl’s gotta post about other things apart from her outfits! I’ll be doing more beauty-related posts from time to time just to change things up.Today,I also introduce you to my other lipsticks,Sleek and Flormar.I’m looking to expand my lipstick collection of course. As you can see below, all my lipsticks are bold shades,I’m planning to have more toned-down and subtle hues like nudes, peaches and browns.

Meet…Sleek,Cherry Brandy. It’s not matte lipstick but sure lasts long.I love this lipstick because it goes so well with my complexion and it’s edgy.

I love love love sleek products because they’re long lasting and you can get them at a good price.I used to buy relatively cheaper makeup, including lipstick but I stopped.Cheap eyeshadow and eye pencil used to irritate my eyes and cheap lipstick used to last for at most an hour. It’s better to have one good lipstick than ten which only last for an hour. The thing with makeup in general, don’t compromise on quality! As Vivienne Westwood once said ”Choose well, buy less” .That’s my new mantra when it comes to buying makeup, clothes and accessories in general.

DSC00769Meet Flormar Supermatte colour #208:

DSC00775-001Its colour isย  almost like a burnt orange and I love the texture. It also lasts quite long!

DSC00784-002This is my go-to lip product.Nivea Hydro Care.I use it on those days that I don’tย  wear any makeup or I’m wearing strong eyeshadow. When wearing strong eyeshadow I like to keep the lips simple.

DSC00800-001And last but absolutely not least, meet Sleek Lipgloss(High Shine). It smells so good! It has a lovely cocoa butter scent plus it lasts so long into the day or night.I usually wear it with charcoal-coloured eyeshadow.Together they create such a dramatic effect.I also wear it on days I’m not wearing any eye makeup because it is a star on its own.

Just before I finish, here are some interesting facts about lipstick:

  • Lipsticks can be separated in several types โ€“ ordinary lipstick, glossy or glittery lipsticks, chapstick , moisturizing lipsticks, lip gloss and lip balm.
  • ”Kiss of Deathโ€ is a term that is commonly associated with lipstick. It was coined because of the โ€œfemme fataleโ€ phenomenon in fiction, but also because some ancient civilizations unknowingly used poisonous materials for making of lipstick.
  • Lipsticks have expiration date and can become rancid. Storing them in fridges can prolong their life.
  • During dark and middle ages in Europe, lipsticks were often viewed as a fashion accessory of prostitutes and lower class women. The only time when it was used in high circles was during and shortly after the reign of English Queen Elizabeth I. (I nearly choked when I read this one :D)
  • For the long time in European Middle Ages, red lipsticks was associated with Satan worshiping(This must be the wierdest one)
  • Lipsticks can contain fish scales, and castor oil that provides lips with shiny film that canโ€™t be smeared easily (I know I look like I’m trying to discourage you from wearing lipstick, but I’m not…honest! :D)
  • Clear lip balm is one of the most popular lipstick product in the modern market.
  • The most famous Actresses that popularized lipsticks were Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor.
  • Some civilizations did not allow women to appear in public without extensive facial makeup. Japanese for example.
  • First swivel up lipstick in a tube appeared in 1923.

In the words of Bon Jovi ”HAVE A NICE DAAY” ๐Ÿ™‚

“Elegance is not the prerogative of those who have just escaped from adolescence, but of those who have already taken possession of their future.”โ€” Coco Chanel

As I promised,I’m posting about the fashion event I attended last Saturday called ‘THE ELEGANCE AFFAIR II”.It was an event for designers, bloggers, models ,fashion lovers and people just looking to have a good time. One of the designers there was Shenu Hooda whose designs I recently came across and loved.I especially love her designs of the last Swahili Fashion Week.Other designers in the house were Muhammad Bana, Sharuz Fashion House, M & O Fashion House Insomnia and Keba Authentic Clothing.I was accompanied by my better half who is always there for me…A shout out to James and all the supportive guys out there! ๐Ÿ˜€ Fashion means a great deal to me and he’s been there every step of the way . ๐Ÿ™‚ I was interviewed as a blogger.I enjoyed myself that night. Here is how it went:

DSC00708I wore a white crocheted shirt and an african-print skirt which I got made a while back. The accessories are: A brass neck piece,a black african-inspired clutch and cobalt blue spiked heels. The lipstick I have on is Sleek,Cherry Brandy.

I leave you with a quote from a great woman,

Heyllow my good people.Hope you’re doing well.My week is not so bad, been doing alot of chilling lately.Well,my look was inspired by Tommy Hilfiger’s Spring/Summer 2013 Ad campaign which featured nautical stripes.Thick, thin, vertical and horizontal. The main colours are red, blue, black and white.

ย I’m in a striped top with cute golden buttons on the shoulders, red jeans and gold pumps.I’m also wearing cat-eye sunglasses and carrying a mustard sling bag.

Here’s the crazy funny thing.I did a liiittle bit of modification…The chain is actually a belt. Haha! Got you there, didn’t I? ๐Ÿ˜€ The amazing things you can do with accessories.

DSC00684-001The pink satchel was in the mix…And the lovely necklace too.I like a good sling bag because it allows your hands to be free when you’re doing any activity.
