There are times when you see something you really like but no money for it at that time. Then there are times when you have the money and you get so excited but don’t know where to start shopping or what to buy first! Well, here are some solutions for the times you face confusion.
What to consider when going to shop for clothes and accessories:
1.WHAT’S THE SEASON?
You might want to ask yourself what season you’re currently experiencing or what season you’re going into. For tropical countries you know there’s no snow,it’s just sunshine, rain or extreme cold. Light and flowy items like vests, shorts, short skirts and leggings are great for example for January weather. For the rain of course you want to invest in fab jackets and boots.I like June and July because it gives me a chance to dig up my cardigans and hoodies from the back of my closet .Maxis are also a great way to be fashionable in the cold. For the snow of you’ll be wearing alot of furs,jackets,scarves,marvins/beanies and gloves.
Don’t be a trend junkie! Trends are not entirely bad and if you say you’re not a trend follower then you’re lying a taad bit.Who doesn’t wear flared pants or skinny jeans? Or any kind of denim? How about ballerina flats or pumps?Leather/faux leather is also a classic. These have been trends in the past but they’ve stood the test of time.My point is,buy stuff that you’re likely to wear for a long time to come whether it’s trending or not.Whether it’s the peplum, faux leather, denim shirt or asymmetrical dresses, buy it because you like it and not because everyone is wearing it.I must admit I’ve made mistakes by buying some trendy pieces that I’ve only worn a few times and wouldn’t dare want to be seen in them today! 😀 Remember the ”Arafat” fiasco? Buy something that will stand the test of time so that you don’t feel like you’ve wasted your money.
3.WHICH ACCESSORIES DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR WARDROBE?
You should definitely consider the accessories you have in you have.Ask yourself whether the accessories you have go with what you want to buy.I’ve also been in situations where I went shopping just to come home and realize ”I have no shoes to wear with this dress! Darn…” 😦 For instance,if you want to get a dress or top for a certain accessory, carry it with you when you go shopping and wear them together to see whether they go.Whether it’s in terms of colour or style, try to buy clothes or accessories that match the accessories you have.
4.WHICH COLOURS DO I HAVE IN MY WARDROBE?
The colour wheel below can help you choose which colours to buy when shopping. The colours opposite each other go together as I’ve mentioned in an earlier post.Take yellow and purple for instance. The colours next to each other also go,like pink and purple. If you have neutral colours like blacks, whites or greys, you’re in luck because those colours go with anything! 🙂
5.WHAT IS MY BODY TYPE?
So we see clothes on runway models and on blogs and sometimes you track those clothes down and buy them…or something close to them. Noooo! It might have looked good on those other people but when you try it out it backfires like Lindsay Lohan’s plastic surgery! Don’t fall for shop attendants’ charms and lies telling you that you look good.If you must, here’s an idea,do take a photo in what you’re wearing ,go home and scrutinise or ask for someone else’s opinion and see if you’re coming back to buy that item.Though some stores don’t like you taking photos in their stores! 😀
6.MAKE A LIST AND BUGDET OF WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO BUY.
I used to be a victim of beautiful things.I never used to shop with a shopping list, mine was just to walk around and buy anything that looks good then I go back home and I’m like,”where will I even wear this??” :O Sometimes you come across some really nice heels, you don’t really need them but you buy them anyway. Why? Coz they look sooo good! Don’t buy what you want before you buy what you NEED.Write a list of stuff you’d like to buy, where and estimate at how much and as you shop, tick what you’ve bought.Over the years I’ve gained more satisfaction after shopping than before.I feel happy when I go to sleep because I know I got everything or almost everything I needed when I went shopping. After buying what you need, now go all out and buy what you want!
7.YOU DON’T NEED TO DO IT ALL AT ONCE.
Instead of going for a shopping spree,I.e,buying alot of stuff all at once, you can shop in bits. You can buy for example that nice dress in January, those fab wedges in February and so on.This you can do If you’re patient and it gives you an opportunity to look long and hard before you spend that cash! It’s better for especially the stuff you want to splurge on and want to feel like you’ve got the best value for your money. But then again…You Only Live Once. However, don’t use Y.O.L.O as an excuse all the time 😀
I loove shopping,because: 😀
Remember, always stay fabulous! 🙂
