Loving the colour! See the trends here? Colour blocking and blouses.Take away the shoes and I’m fine.
Mondays can suck but have a good one!
So it’s about that time…EXAMS! Bummer *sigh* .The time when frustrations and tensions run high .While studying my mind started roving to all kinds of places and one of those places was of course clothes and fashion. So while on the internet I came across a certain fashionista and her style let me tell you is AMAZING.Then I looked back at what my fashion sense from time immemorial has been. This is one of those situations where you’re eating at home while watching The Food Channel then you look at what you’re eating and you put your plate aside and suddenly feel full.Haha! The Food on the Food Channel is soo tantalizing you just want to eat it.
That’s what I was thinking about me and my fashion sense.I know I’m a fashionista at heart and I know I can raise the bar higher.I think one problem with us here in our dear beloved country is that we don’t have so many of these reeally fashionable brands or stores .I’m talking about ASOS,ALDO,FOREVER21,H & M,TOPSHOP,DEICHMANN etc. You’d be shocked to find out that stuff in Mr.Price South Africa cost half of what they cost here.I’m not kidding…And the only way you can get their stuff is online where they are relatively affordable considering that they’re not second hand.I went to one of these online shops for a trial and was so excited and started frantically punching the keys on my computer calculating and calculating. Then I reach the end of my trial shopping spree, you know, the checkout and saw that shipping costs as much as the dress I wanted to buy! 😀 Disadvantages of living in this side of the world. It is so far away.I was like, there’s no point. This, by the way is so frustrating.I used to really wonder why people say they don’t shop in Kenya.I guess now I know why.
Honestly I’m so tired of Toi and Ngara and everywhere else that’s like that. You try on something then when you reach home you find it’s almost a different thing from what you bought! What with the the wears and tears you didn’t see,the stain, the imperfect fit, fading after a few washes…I can say It’s been a whole load of disappointments. My friend told me the other day how her phone was stolen in Toi by those guys who sell dresses while she was trying on dresses. The got into her bag when the dress was over her head! How she got it back was so dramatic only she can tell you properly! 😀 She lives to tell the tale.
I think I’ve been trying to live on a budget for too long.I say to heck! Thing is,Moi Avenue or anywhere around town is just death to your money. Those are just places you go to shop with mummy or daddy.Plus there’s so much fake stuff going around;Caveat Emptor(Buyer beware)!I think now I’m just going to do an over-haul of my wardrobe. Some things I might actually just give out.
What I usually envision and what I have and what I see around are totally different.I’m on a quest to find the right place to shop, for me.Somewhere with stylish clothes and shoes, somewhere I won’t have to go deep in the depths to find or almost get shot or grenade thrown at me while looking for it #GarissaLodgetendencies# and most of all, affordable .I WILL find it .I have my sights set on Mr.Price and Style Connections(an online shopping site). They’re affordable and have awsome stuff.Friends and relatives going abroad will also come in handy here.I can’t wait to be earning and earning proper money.Money won’t be a THANG.
That’s all folks!
Bohemian is usually a style associated with people who live unconventional, artistic lives…Well,I’m no gypsy or hippie but I like me some bohemian fashion.Well, with their free spirited nature, bohemian girls could really give a hoot about fashion but their style is lovely meaning they are/were natural fashionistas!
Bella in a floral maxi dress, denim jacket and pink gladiator sandals.Have you seen those earrings? fabulous! Also check out the chunky bangles!!
Me in pearls, a long white boho kind of vintage style top, tights(I believe the right name is ‘skin tights’,remember those? Oh yeah,i’ve brought them back! ) and ballet flats.
So the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 13, 2013 in Beverly Hills, California. Much has been said about the awards won and the actors and actresses who won them.I’m here to talk about the fashion side of it…like so many others have done, but from my point of view! Who doesn’t dream of the Hollywood life? I mean, the kind of lives those people live? I would swap mine for that any day.Except I would keep the people in my life thank you.
I’ll start with guys fashion.Well, with guys on the red carpet, really all you need to do is put on a good suit and you’re good to go after 15 minutes.Ladies take even a whole day on hair, make up and other beauty stuff that sometimes will even go unnoticed! 😀 But we still do it because it’s so much fun getting ready.
I usually love a more fitting dress and there was a lot of that at the Golden Globes, especially the mermaid dresses. There were also a few ball gowns.
BODACIOUS IN BLACK.
1.Sofia vergara In a Michael Cinco dress.
If you’ve watched ‘The Modern Family’ you’ve seen her.She is aall that and a bag of chips and is not afraid to show it:
Mexican and thoroughly blessed showed off her curves in this Gucci dress:Mui caliente! Observe how the guy behind her is staring with his mouth open 😀
3.Kate Hudson is a well-renowned actress. She wore this body-hugging Alexander McQueen Dress to the Globes! Elegant is an understatement…
PRETTY IN PASTELS
She sure aint Jenny from the block no more.I love this dress on her.
2.Kerry Washington of ‘Django Unchained’.She looked so adorable in this dress.Very chic.
Always portrayed as a dumb blonde eg in ‘8 simple rules’ and ‘the Big Bang Theory’ but does she look dumb here to you?
Also looking so adorable in this white gown…but you wait till she assaults you in a cat suit.
2.Downton abbey’s michelle dockery.
That white and gold is just sooo elegant.Very Grecian.Good choice!
3.Julianne Hough in Monica Lhuillier.
More like princess Julianne. This is so gorgeous.Minimum jewellery so that the dress can shine.Plus have you seen her hair?
PINKS AND REDS.
1.Jessica Alba In Oscar De La Renta.
I just love this dress.Everything about it is elegant. The shape, the fit.Plus the colour is gorgeous! Her hair and make up also really brings the whole look together.
You might have seen her in ‘The Hunger Games’.She Also went for the ball gown and pulled it off quite pleasantly.
BEAUTIFUL IN BURGUNDY
1.Taylor Swift.I love burgundy because it’s an edgy colour and I think it looked lovely on her.
This dress though simple,it fit quite nicely and at least she did something that not many did on the red carpet…sleeves! I think she looks amazing.
THE VA VA VOOM GIRLS.
And then there’s the thigh high slits. They should warn viewers of the Globes, ‘DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME’ . It also looks like the slit is there to allow for flying kicks.Stay away! Well,If you’ve got it,flaunt it.That’s exactly what these daring women did:
1.Halle berry in versace:
I also love the print on this dress.
2.Eva longoria in Emilio pucci.
This black chiffon and lace pleated dress was just something else.whaat?
This white Grecian Alexandre Vauthier dress must have had Seal reconsidering… 😀
And then there’s them…NO WAY… Uh uh.These ladies’ fashion has probably seen better days.
Fire your stylist! You look like you were a bridesmaid in one of those weddings where bridesmaids are deliberately made to look bad so that the bride can shine.
2.Rebecca Miller.Umm,ok,maybe she was on her way home and just decided to pop into the awards…or was she?? well, what she’s wearing is not entirely bad.The boots are so misplace though. It’s just not appropriate for ANY award show.
And Adele who always wears black on the red carpet. She’s …well…just there… :-@
Probably the best dressed for me was,,,,JESSICA ALBA!
Who was yours?
For the rock chic:Drop tops, ripped jeans, skater skirts/dresses,denim and leather jackets, short shorts, boots, dramatic eye makeup and rockin nails.
Feeling badass today? How about a logo top, some jeans, rockin jewellery and old schools, ankle boots or combat boots?
Or a leather/ denim jacket or vest on a coloured top and shorts/a skirt and fishnets/normal stockings? I’m loving drop tops lately. You can use them to complete the rock n roll look.
Don’t forget the dramatic eye make-up and nails for that extra edge! I’m thinking burgundy or red lips. This plus charcoal eyeshadow and dark eyeliner…The makings of a great smokey eye.
But since It’s 23 degrees here in Nairobi,Ithink you should just carry the leather jacket ,the heat is crazy! 😀
